When you’re looking for simple and easy marketing ideas that work and you’re on LinkedIn you should start seeking out endorsements. These aren’t a substitution for recommendations, but they do give you “testimonials” from people you’ve worked with in the past. The right endorsements will help you increase your credibility.

Maximizing Your LinkedIn Endorsements

“Skill endorsements are a simple and effective way of building your professional brand and engaging your network.” ~ LinkedIn. . . . If you now see the importance of endorsements, you should know about these three ways you can ask for them:

1. Set your skills and endorsements.

This is on the right of your profile, where it says “edit.” By taking the time to do so you subtly encourages other people to mention these skills when they endorse you. Once people begin selecting from these as they endorse you, your 10 most popular skills will rise to the top.

2. Manage your endorsements.

When people endorse you LinkedIn sends you an email notification. If people endorse you for the wrong skills, click the “skip” button. Make sure you do this with each email and then once a month go in and edit your skills list. You can also go into the show/hide list and uncheck some of the endorsements so that skill falls lower in the list.

3. Spread the love!

When people endorse you, make sure you return the favor by endorsing them too. Before doing so, ask what skills they want endorsed for so you can help them like they’ve helped you.
