Social Media . . . More Relevant Than Ever for Business.

Social Media has become a relevant and progressive way to share your business. Whether you are a solo, a small business, or a multi-national, to grow your business today you need to use social media.

Gone are the days when Facebook was used solely for showing your friends your new haircut or telling them what you ate for breakfast. YouTube is about more than sharing your child’s solo at the school music concert.

A 2012 post from searchenginwatch.com stated:

There’s absolutely no doubt that social networks continue to play an increasingly important part in many people’s lives. EMarketer predicts there will be a massive 1.43 billion social network users in 2012, representing a 19.2 percent increase over 2011 figures.

Never in the history of business advertising has there been an opportunity to reach so many people. It is important, though, that you use social media wisely to put your best face forward. The worng tweet or mis-thought FB post could be detrimental to your business.

You’ll want to take these things into consideration when using social media:

  1. Set up a social media page for your business – do not use your personal page. Create a separate personal account for that purpose.
  2. Don’t ignore posts or tweets. Always respond. You never know if you have gained a new client or lost a client.
  3. Be consistent in your message.
  4. Post regularly, but do not over post.
  5. Find appropriate groups to join that are relevant to your business to help expand your visibility.
  6. Pick your social media wisely. Make sure that you can manage the media which you have chosen.
  7. If necessary, hire a professional to set up your social media sites.

Social media is not a wave of the future. It is happening now and is a must for people who are serious about their business. Its significance in business has grown substantially with no end in sight. The challenge for businesses is to find a good balance between social media and marketing. Remember that behind the tweets, posts and videos are people, and ultimately, it is people that make business decisions.
