Most people who aspire to success on the internet mistakenly believe that all they have to do is put up a website and fill it with pages that contain just the right percentage of particular keywords and keyword phrases. They consider this their contribution to SEO and that doing this alone will push their site to the top of the search engine lists. However, it’s critical that you include a social media strategy in the mix, if you’re to succeed.

When using social media as a marketing tool, it’s not enough to just create lots of posts on your social media and/or blog pages. In fact, it’s more effective to create fewer posts that are of higher value in terms of content. When people read social media posts they’re really looking for useful information, just like when they visit your website. The difference is, social media posts are designed to entice readers to visit the poster’s website – that’s what the intention should be anyway. So your social media strategy should be to provide your readers with useful, relevant, well written posts. By doing that, you’ll not only get them to visit your website, they’ll very likely tell their friends about it.

Here are 4 tips for creating quality social media posts:

  1. Write in your own “voice”. In other words, write with the same tone as when you speak. If you tend to speak casually, as most people do, you should write with a casual tone. If you speak with a more formal tone, write that way. By writing in your own voice, you’ll feel more comfortable and confident, and that feeling will come through in the tone of your posts.
  2. Write from real experience – Either yours or someone else’s. If you have firsthand knowledge and expertise on a given topic, use that. If not, thoroughly research the topic you’re writing about, then present it in your own words.
  3. Cite reference material. This ads additional levels of credibility to your post content. Your readers will appreciate the fact that you did some research on the topic, and they’ll feel as though they won’t have to.
