How to Use Social Media For Marketing

Not many people realize that social media goes beyond Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest and Google Plus.  There are several others out there such as tumblr, digg, and stumbleupon, just to name a few.

With all the social media choices, where do we start? More importantly, how do we use social media for marketing our companies?

In order to even have an idea of how to answer that question, you need to first know some numbers.  According to the Pew Research Center, Facebook was the most used social media platform between 2012-2014 followed by LinkedIn, Pinterest, Instagram and Twitter.  The next thing you need to know are connections. How do you connect all these social media platforms and still get your message out.

Below are a few simple strategies that can increase your social media visibility.

1. Social Media Icons

These are important to have your website or blog.  If readers like what they are reading, seeing, or listening to, they are more apt to share it with their social media circles.  Virtually every website builder/platform has the capability to easily add social media icons to your website or blog.

2. Connections

Within your social media circles, make sure you are connecting with other people/companies/websites/bloggers that are similar to yours.  By making these connections (essentially networking), you can not only learn from what others are doing, but you can work on building relationships.  People you are connected will make a great resource to help share your message.

3. Content

Websites that are getting noticed are websites that have lots of content.  I bet you are thinking to yourself, “I don’t have time to write,” or “I’m not a writer!”  This is where those connections come in handy. Reach out to some of the people in your circle and see if they will write an article for you.  Put a short bio at the bottom and a link to their website. Not only will this help increase your traffic, but you are also helping them out.  Even nicer, it doesn’t cost you a thing.
