No matter if you’re a single-person contractor, or a 300-employee firm, client loyalty can be the breath or the bane of your business. With the ever-changing environment of the business world, so too, must our ideas about client retention change.

Entertain, engage, inspire. . . Simple ideas to keep clients coming back.

Following are a few ways to help you entertain, engage, inspire your clients for better, long-lasting relationships.

Entertain

Sure, taking a client out to a great restaurant, with amazing service is a great way to entertain them. However, those interactions are likely not going to be on a very regular basis. What about your day-to-day collaborations? Keeping a jovial attitude can go a long way. A well placed joke, or spin on words doesn’t hurt either. Always remember to keep it classy. You want to be clever and witty, not offensive.

Do you need help growing your business? Click here to check out the social media marketing and website design packages from The Sherwood Group. We’ll help you capture new business and achieve your goals.

Engage

If someone is paying for your services, you can be sure they expect to feel as if they have your full attention. Keep them involved and engaged as much a possible. Don’t speak to them in technical and confusing jargon. Do email and hold phone conferences on a regular basis. This lets the client know they are a priority, and if they feel that way, they are sure to sing your praises.

Inspire

Be enthusiastic! Not only for your client, but for your team! Always try to find the silver-lining of a situation. Bring only positivity to the table and leave no room for doubt or misgivings. Confidence is key.

While everyone will likely find their own approach to client attraction and client retention, these ideas are good to have in any arsenal. Contact us to find out how we can help you keep your current and future clients.

Your website is often the first impression of your business for potential customers. As such, it is essential that your website portrays your business the way you want to be seen so you don’t lose business. If a potential customer has issues with your website or doesn’t like what they see, they probably won’t want to work with you.

Four Reasons Your Website Design Is Causing You To Lose Business

This means you could be losing customers without even knowing it. Here are 4 reasons why your website may be causing you to lose out on new business:

1. It’s badly designed and/or not up to date.

Looks really do matter when making a first impression. By having a modern website, you show customers that your business is relevant and up-to-date on the latest technology. If your website hasn’t been updated in ten years, or has an outdated design, it may be time to redesign.

2. It’s difficult to navigate.

This goes hand-in-hand with design. If your website is too cluttered or doesn’t have a clear way to navigate, customers may get frustrated or leave before finding the information they need. Make sure to keep your site simple, with clear links to important information.

3. It doesn’t contain essential information.

Include all information a person might need to know before they purchase your product or service, including contact information. It may seem simple, but it can be easy to miss small details when creating your site. Customers who can’t figure out how to contact you or how much something is will likely move on to another company.

4. Your site has technical issues.

This is one of the most common ways businesses lose customers who are visiting their website. Technical problems can have a huge effect on a person’s experience with your website and may even prevent them from conducting business with you. Broken links or slow loading times can make your website unusable, so go through and make sure your site is functioning properly.

Waiting for the phone to ring? Wondering why your page views and bounce rates are dismal, and your competition has twice the social media engagement? Here are 3 reasons why your business fails while your competition succeeds.

3 Reasons Why Your Business Fails While Your Competition Succeeds

1. They Put Their Customers First

Think the customer is always right? Wrong. This antiquated approach to customer service is passive and stuffy. Why wait for your customers to tell you what they want when you can offer them what they need? Change that ‘customer is always right’ mindset to one of ‘put the customer first’. When you put your customer first you actively control all interactions and can guide your customer to what you know is best for them. Apply this concept across the board and you’ll fast see a change in customer engagement. Put your customers first by suggesting up-sells to improve their experience. Put them first by thanking them with a personal note after every order. Put them first by working on decreasing your customer service wait time. Put them first by responding to every single social media comment, review, and mention.

2. They Invest in Their Website

Does your website stand out? Or does it look like every other template website? For many companies, your website may be the only interaction your customers have with you. If your website doesn’t engage, visitors certainly won’t take the time to continue a conversation with you on social or by signing up for newsletters. There’s nothing wrong with a clean, simple website as long as it is well-kept. Quality back-end website design and development is expensive, so if that’s out of your reach for now focus on keeping your site active, easy to navigate, and up to date. There’s no excuse for dead links, old information, or a confusing layout.

3. They Inspire

You do not sell a product. You sell HOW that product will make your customers feel or help them achieve. Don’t sell a burger – sell delicious. Don’t sell a cleaning service – sell the look on your mother in-laws face when she steps into your pristine home. Share those moments with your customers. Encourage them to share their stories with you and the community you create. Make sure the voice of your company, presented in copy and images, reflects how your product or service will make your customers feel.

Are you looking for marketing advice or need help implementing these concepts into your business strategy? The Sherwood Group is here to help you find new and inspired creative solutions for your business.

Is your business missing out by not going mobile? And, why is going mobile important? Simple. Because your customers are already mobile on their smartphones and tablets. If you want to catch fish, you have to go where the fish are. If you want to catch customers and clients in cyberspace, you have to be mobile.

Is your business missing out by not going mobile?

This may mean redoing your website so it is mobile-friendly, but it’s worth it for your customers. What are the advantages of a mobile site? Here are a few summarized from this article.

1. Mobile sites look better on smartphones.

Traditional sites are hard to navigate (and read) on mobile phones:

In a recent study, 38% of people leave a website because it was not developed specifically for mobile users. They complain that it was too hard to use and locate information.

2. Mobile devices are overtaking desktop users.

This trend will continue as tablets and smartphones become more affordable.

3. Mobile sites keep customers coming back.

If a customer does not like his mobile experience with your website, it is likely he will never return.

4. Mobile sites are less expensive to design.

This is because coding a mobile website has become simpler, and the basics of the site are abbreviated for mobile ease-of-use.

5. Mobile sites increase traffic.

You can expect as much as 13% in increased traffic.

6. When you go mobile. . . .

Your customers will recognize that you are thinking about them and care about their experience.

7. Be the leader in your area.

Just as brick-and-mortar businesses have been slow to get online, some that are already online have been slow to convert to mobile. Be the leader in your area and be the one that customers search.

If you’ve read this article and know that you need to upgrade your site, contact The Sherwood Group. For over 25 years we have helped our clients to to achieve their goals, many times doubling or tripling their business. Let us help you get up-to-speed in the mobile world.

LinkedIn has long been the primary social media outlet for business, especially for professional services.  Marketing managers and business development professionals have racked up hundreds of contacts. They have crafted and carefully maintained pages for their projects and principal level staff. Groups were joined. Pulse articles written and curated. . .  all hoping to generate new business.

4 Reasons Why LinkedIn Won't Help You Generate New Business

No Such Luck! You might as well abandon that hope.  LinkedIn is good for many things, but generating new business is NOT one of them.  What went wrong?  These factors tend to drive serious business development away from LinkedIn:

1. LinkedIn Became Facebook

You’ve noticed it. The content on your LinkedIn home page looks more and more like your Facebook newsfeed.  Posts are more personal, more about promotion, and less appropriate in a business environment.

2. Endorsements Are Meaningless

You are constantly asked to ‘endorse’ a contact for a ‘skill’ that person may very well not have. How can that mean anything?

Do you need help growing your business? Click here to check out the social media marketing and website design packages from The Sherwood Group. We’ll help you capture new business and achieve your goals.

3. Contact Requests Are Annoying

An informal poll of a group of business development professionals for engineering firms showed that nearly half of the contact requests received were from staffing agencies or software sales.

4. Unsolicited Job Announcements

You’ve probably noticed an increase in the number of emails from LinkedIn informing you of firms who are looking for someone just like you, maybe.  Unfortunately, the keyword-search method is flawed, and potential job opportunities are often not relevant to your skill set.

Again, LinkedIn is a great platform for many things; Pulse always has interesting articles. Many groups maintain lively discussions.  Even introductions can be useful.  Just don’t expect to generate new business.

The Sherwood Group can find the best business generation platforms for your business. Let us help you reach the next level.
