It can be difficult building trust in your business. However, it’s very important, especially if you want to get the right kind of clients and keep them coming back with repeat business. There’s a bonus too: clients will refer their friends and associates when they trust you.

Here are 5 simple ways for building trust in your business.

1. Do what you say you will do.

You need to finish all of your tasks exactly the way that your client wants them to be done.

2. Make sure you finish all tasks on time, earlier if possible.

You should strive to get all of your work finished early so you can make any changes if necessary. This will show your clients how dedicated you are.

3. Stay on budget at all times.

Clients do not appreciate it when you spend more money than you planned. Also, if you end up working on a project for much longer than you expected and it costs them a lot more money, they will not be pleased. Instead, be sure to keep within the budget that you discussed.

4. If problems arise, keep your clients informed.

Clients need to know when there are problems, whether something came up in your personal life and you might not be able to finish in time or if you found that you might end up taking more time to do their project. It is better to let them know early that you may need more time than waiting until the last minute.

5. If the client asks, sign a confidentiality agreement.

Many clients want you to sign an agreement. You could also take the initiative and bring one if they do not bring it up. This shows them that you are trustworthy.

It can be difficult to gain trust as a small business owner. However, as you gain the trust of a few clients, you will notice your business growing. To do that, you should always do what you say you will do, stay on budget, and finish by the agreed upon deadline, earlier if possible.

Nowadays, one doesn’t hear the term “gender gap” very often because women have been in the workplace for so long.  However, it’s still true that they get paid less for doing the same type of work as men.  Plus, they’re often given a hard time in fields that are particularly male-dominated.

Women who are supervisors may have to fight for the respect they deserve.  If you want to be a successful entrepreneur, you need to make sure that women in the workplace get the credit, the pay and the respect that is due to them.  Here are a few tips:

Communicating with Female Employees

Communication is everything.  As a small business owner, you must already know this to be true.  Taking the time to speak to your clients can make all the difference between landing an account and losing it.  Similarly, when it comes to your employees, you need to know what’s going on in their minds.  When you ask your female employees for feedback, do you hear the same types of comments from all of them?  Do they seem generally satisfied with the way that things are going?  Or are there particular issues that are bothering them all?

Investigating Issues

If your female employees don’t seem to be particularly forthcoming, this could be because they are afraid of coming out into the open with regard to certain issues.  In this case, an anonymous survey might be a good option, as long as you have enough female employees to make this possible.  Just keep in mind that if you feel that something is wrong, it generally is.  You may not be able to put your finger on that thing but you need to trust your gut and look into it further.

Setting Guidelines

It’s always a good idea to have written guidelines with regard to how certain situations should be handled.  For example, if you’re getting a lot of complaints with regard to sexual harassment or insubordination, you need to have a set way of dealing with these complaints.  Ideally, the situation needs to be brought before a neutral person and investigated further by that person.  If  you’re an entrepreneur, this responsibility is likely to fall on you.  However, it’s also possible to delegate it to someone whose judgment you can trust.

Taking Action to Prevent Harassment

What do you do in cases where the same type of allegation is brought against a certain person again and again?  It’s up to you to decide whether you want to fire someone who is known for harassing female colleagues or whether you want to penalize them in some other way.  However, if it’s important for you to keep your female employees happy, keep in mind that it will be necessary to take a definitive step.

There are no perfect manuals — every brand attracts different audiences and goes by different standards, but there are some things that can help you effectively engage your audience. Here are five essential marketing tips to do just that.

1. Do your share of social listening

Regularly read all the comments posted on your Facebook page and other social media channels to see what people are talking about. Use social media monitoring tools like Hootsuite, TwitterDeck or Topsy to follow the mentions of certain keywords or hashtags.

In order to join the conversation you’ll need to have a clear idea about what people, industry and your competitors say about your brand. All those insights will help you to understand your audience better – and that knowledge is crucial to boosting user engagement with your product.

2. Post high-quality visual content

Visuals capture users’ attention like nothing else. This study showed 87% of shares on a Facebook page are of posts that feature photos or videos, in comparison to those with links (4%) or text only (2%).

Every time you post a photo, you’re sure to get users’ attention – and therefore it’s a good idea to invest some time into getting high-quality, professionally-looking visuals to boost the image of your brand.

3. Start a conversation

The best way to do this is to ask a question. But not just any question – it should be meaningful and thoughtful. Don’t ask just for the sake of asking, but inquire about things you’re genuinely interested in. Make your questions relevant to your industry, open-ended and positive.

Another way of starting a conversation on social media is by answering questions posted by your audience. Address these issues even when you’re not sure how to answer them – it simply shows that you’re paying attention to what users have to say and this in itself is valuable.

4. Promote quality content

Your social media channels shouldn’t be devoted exclusively to your own content. Feel free to share content created by others – this is the best way to build a community surrounding a particular segment of the industry. And once you post something of your own, members of your community are more likely to share it back.

 5. Use your own voice

Don’t go for meaningless corporate slogans that have nothing human about them. Social media are very personal and require a certain tone and style to work. People will be more willing to interact with your brand once they can sense that there’s a real person behind the account.

6. Mix it up

Don’t get too repetitive with your content. If every piece you deliver looks the same and sounds the same, users will soon look for things that are different and perhaps more exciting. Take a Facebook page for instance – you can experiment with photos, videos, questions, links and then see which of them generate most engagement.

Consider how your posts look together – a newsfeed full of identical content pieces will feel generic. And lack of personality is the worst sin on social media!

Developing content that drives engagement takes some time. Don’t expect user engagement rates to rise quickly – you’ll need to spend a lot of time building and implementing your strategy before you start to see its results. Still, great content shared in the right way will generate more engagement, drive new users to your brand, spread brand awareness across the web and boost your online business profile.

Cloud automation provider Skytap was recently able to increase its sales leads 124 percent by using buyer personas to create targeted content, reports Single Grain. Better understanding of buyer personas enabled by big data is paying off, with companies seeing $13.01 returned for every dollar they spend on analytics, according to a Nucleus Research survey.

Start putting analytics to work for you by using customer service data to optimize your company’s buyer persona and sales process.

 

Collecting Information

Gathering data is the first step toward creating a buyer persona. As direct mail marketers have long insisted, your current customers are your best resource. Observe your customers’ behavior by using tools such as Google Analytics and Aspect Zipwire call center software. Phone polls, email, blog surveys, social media data and conversations, demographics research and industry reports are other tools you can use to collect information from both your current and past customers as well as other prospects.

Analyzing Your Data

Start analyzing your data by placing it in a number of categories. These include basic demographic information such as gender, age and profession. Also consider information relevant to spending behavior, such as what types of benefits lead customers to make a purchasing decision, how much they typically spend and their shopping habits. This type of information can be combined with customer service information such as how easily shoppers are able to find what they want on your store or website, how often they need help, how long they have to wait for assistance, what channel they prefer for receiving support and what types of issues they need help with.

Creating a Persona

Visualize your buyer as a real person by giving him or her a realistic name, backstory, job, title and hobbies, along with goals, challenges, values and fears. For instance, Old Navy directed one of its former marketing campaigns at an imaginary soccer mom named Jenny who is 25 to 35 and married to a working husband with children in elementary school. Create three to five buying personas to reach multiple markets.

Creating Targeted Content

Oracle Senior Product Marketer Kaila Garrison lists five sets of key questions you can ask when creating personas for content marketing. Her questions solicit information such as what motivates your buyers, what fears and frustrations concern them, where do they go to get information and what steps they go through before making a purchase. Answering these types of questions will help you design targeted content that meets your buyers where they’re at and addresses their needs.

Adjusting Your Sales Process

Customer service data can also help you improve your sales process by helping you give your customers what they want. For instance, a LivePerson survey found that for 82 percent of customers, the most important factor that makes a great customer service experience is getting their issue resolved quickly, while another 56 percent agreed that resolving the issue in a single interaction was important. Knowing this type of information can help you take steps such as reducing customer wait time to ensure that your customers remain satisfied and in a buying mood.

As you may know, it’s perfectly acceptable to pass along interesting photos, articles and news stories that focus on topics relevant to your business and your clients’ business. You can even automate sharing your content with a platform like Hootsuite to make it easier.

The importance of work life balance or life work balance cannot be overstated. Get a good nights rest and get up feeling fresh and ready to take on your day. Have a plan that includes exercise time, family time, work time and more family time in the evenings. Own your job.

Whether you are the sole employee of your own business or you happen to be the late night cashier at a small town convenience store, your job belongs to you. Put your heart into it. Project the image you wish your customers to see.

Build a better attitude in your customers.

Everyone has bad days. The problem is that they are contagious. Good thing that positive attitudes are as well. Smile. Greet sincerely. There is no doubt that a strong, positive online presence is a must for a successful business. Social media is important but means nothing if it does not drive consumers to the company’s website. Likewise, good web design must hold a user’s attention in such a way as to translate into revenue. Responsiveness

According to seal manufacturer Apple Rubber, moving to a responsive design gives more accessibility for desktop and mobile users. Responsive web design is more than a catch phrase. It is a website’s ability to change based on the user’s needs and the device on which it is viewed. The evolved form of responsiveness is adaptive design, where the site predicts user behavior and changes in response. Whether responding or adapting, a successful website must be equipped to perform equally well on a desktop, smartphone or tablet. If any of these formats falter, it can mean the loss of a sale or potential customer.

Involvement

Most web searches are not mandatory. Seldom do we search for life-saving medication or wilderness rescue equipment online. Internet purchasing is usually a passing motivation that researchers call situational involvement. We browse and like but if the purchase is not made at that time then we move on and forget about the product. As computers come with more and more graphic power, the user is expecting to be engaged with high quality 2- and 3-D visuals. BMW is using fully responsive, high-definition graphics to add to the dimensionality that a user experiences. Even in 2-D, the vector format gives depth to the images. This increased visual impact makes the user want to stay on the site longer and it cements the image into the user’s long-term memory.

Trust

According to Forbes, oil engineering firm Oceaneering was the most trusted company of 2014. You may not be able to see it on first look, but Oceaneering’s website is a direct reflection of its trustworthy status. Research shows that website users find web design simplicity, without popups or flash, to instill a sense of trust in the brand. Oceaneering’s website has that in spades. It is stark with high quality images rotating on a white background. All of the information that a consumer needs is available but there is no distraction of popups that pander to the email marketer.

User-Centered

If the web designer does not have the user in mind, there is little hope for the success of the site. Use Amazon as a model. The site’s responsiveness revolves around the consumer’s experience. They recommend products based on past purchases and help the consumer find new items by a powerful drill-down search system. The site even allows a customer to easily find out how to do things like return items or complain — actions that are not in the best interest of the company. This is what has earned Amazon a rank of best customer service for several years running.

Despite the high cost of some key words, certain companies are still willing to pay exorbitant fees in an attempt to drive targeted traffic to their websites. That being said, apart from the sometimes high cost of PPC advertising, it does not always direct qualified prospects to your website.

Here are 3 groups of people who may be clicking on your PPC ad.

Competitors

Many times competitors of a company will click on the adversary’s website, scoping out the competition, benchmarking your high-quality website, drawing inspiration from the well-written copy. Obviously your competitor has no intention to buy your product or service, but if they click on a PPC ad you will still be paying for it.

Loyal Customers

“Go big or go home.”  “It takes money to make money.”  You’ve heard the sayings about big money deals. Unfortunately, like most proverbs, there is some truth in them: business deals, and especially big deals, are not charity events and a client won’t give money to someone who they don’t believe will meet their ROI expectations.

In the 2014 eBook “The Psychological Science of Money,” it is suggested that the proper use of wealth symbols creates positive interpersonal relationships. Now it’s just a matter of educating yourself about the “proper use” and, then, knowing how to pull it off.

Go Where The Money Is

Short of Howard Hughes-like anomalies, you are not going to find a millionaire hanging out with the Santa Monica homeless, or in your local chamber of commerce or networking group. Wealthy people work hard but they also play hard. Private golf courses and upscale fitness gym are the places that you will find businesspeople with money to spend. Closing the big deals means making connections with the people who can financially help you meet your goals.

Look at your target demographic and see what kind of things they like to do. Once you have made a relationship with one person, have him introduce you to others of his network.

Look Good

You don’t close multimillion-dollar deals at a diner. If you are going to impress a client, use the trapping of wealth. Take your prospect out on a boat. Psychologists at the University of British Columbia found that humans associate certain symbols with wealth; among them is owning a yacht or private boat. This cue of wealth sends a message of prosperity and dominance, so if you’re the guy who takes potential clients for a spin in a brand new sailboat, you’re more likely to close high profile deals. Of course, if you don’t own a boat, you can rent one for the day. But beware: make sure that you have a boating license and know the local boating regulations; otherwise, your perceived dominance is going overboard with the deal.

Do Good

Contrary to popular belief, money is not the root of all evil. The wealthy are not, by their very nature, selfish and immoral. In fact, statistics on charitable giving show the opposite: over a lifetime, people who earn more than $100,000 annually give more of their income to charity (about 10 percent compared to three percent for the next-lowest salary range), so the wealthy have an eye on generosity. Talk to your clients about their charities and invite them to be part of yours. This establishes you as trustworthy and will go a long way in closing future transactions.

Add Your Own Money

Another way of showing your trustworthiness is to put your own money into the deal. If you are asking for investment funds, it will go a long way to closing the deal if you have some of your money at risk as well. If you do not have the funds, get a commitment from a bank.

Give Them What They Want

Just because a person has more disposable income than most does not mean they are willing to throw money away. In a Huffington Post article about the behaviors of the wealthy, we learn that the affluent shop around before buying. To close the big deals, understand that your product needs to be the best on the market. Let your client shop around, then finish the transaction with confidence that yours is the best investment opportunity.
